Hofstra volleyball head coach has grown to love the "City By the Sea."

Since moving to Long Island to become head Hofstra volleyball coach in 2008 from Loyola (Md.) College, Kristina Hernandez has called Long Beach home and living in the "City By the Sea" is an enjoyable experience for the Texas native.

Hernandez's love of Long Beach both for what the Nassau County South Shore city offers in terms of being located by the ocean as well as the many volleyball leagues available in the area, was featured today in Long Beach Patch. Hernandez is coming off a summer in which she got to serve as head coach of the USA Volleyball Women's Junior Continental Team.

Hofstra volleyball's next home match is scheduled for this Wednesday evening Sept. 1 against Iona College starting at 7 p.m. in the Physical Education Building.

The summer of 2010 has been far from a relaxing one for new Hofstra men’s basketball head coach Mo Cassara who spent a 25 day stretch in July and early August attending camps and AAU tournaments in Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Augusta, Ga., Miami, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix and New York City. Cassara has returned to Long Island from his aggressive recruiting journey around the country and continues to focus on the future of the Pride program while gearing up for the 2010/2011 season.

“It was a busy, busy month for our whole staff,” said Cassara, a St. Lawrence University graduate who arrived at Hofstra after serving as an assistant coach at Boston College for the past four seasons. “We’re getting our feet on the ground.”

Three former Hofstra men's lacrosse players to take part in LMX Pro Tour's Philadelphia showcase

Three former Hofstra men's lacrosse players will be taking part in LMX Pro Tour's Aug. 28 showcase in suburban Philadelphia.

The event to be held at Radnor High School in Radnor, Pa. will pit Team New Balance against Team Monster Energy. According to the LMX Pro Tour rosters released last week, Team New Balance will feature 2006 Hofstra graduates Chris Unterstein (attackman) and Brett Moyer (defenseman) with 2009 Pride alum Michael Colleluori (attackman) suiting up for Team Monster Energy. The game will be a homecoming for Moyer and Colleluori, who grew up in suburban Philadelphia and played at nearby Ridley High School.

LMX Pro, which aims to introduce lacrosse to mainstream audiences by combining world class professional games with live concert performances, launched last November and has so far toured in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. The August 28 game between Team New Balance and Team Monster Energy will start at 5 p.m. and be preceded by a live concert performance from up and coming rap star "Wale."  Following the Aug. 28 showcase LMX Pro is next scheduled to tour on Oct. 16 in Palm Coast, Fla. just outside of Jacksonville.
